Athlectic shoes?

We aren't allowed to wear flip flops at our school anymore (not even rainbows) and i have a pair of pumas, 2 pairs of converses, and a pair of sperrys. I need to buy a new pair of running shoes, and I was wondering if nike shox are still in style? Or should I get another pair of asics?Thanks
