I need help finding a topic for an english essay.?

i have to write an controversial research essay and i can't figure out what topic to write about. i've thought of Opus Dei or The Di Vinci Code. that book/movie was a very controversial topic when they came out. i can't do it over recent ones though like abortion, gun control, gay rights, etc.. what do ya'll think is a good topic?
