What's the fat person/creature in the first Blade movie?

The scene where it (I think it's name is Pearl) features is totally random. Is it just an extremely fat vampire or a different creature? Why doesn't it reappear in the other films? Surely it's right up (Blade 2's director) Guillermo del Toro alley?
